Keeping Your Computer Safe On The Internet
Firewall

Most people who use the internet today realize the great potential it has for accessing information and communicating with almost anyone, anywhere, in a variety of ways.

But this is an open TWO-WAY exchange of information between your computer and others on the net, and just by clicking on 'Connect', your computer can be found from anywhere in the world and you can become an electronic target for scam artists, thieves, hackers, and crackers.

This is why Indian Creek is offering firewalled public dial-up accounts, to better protect our subscribers while connected to the Internet through our facilities. Much like a one-way mirror, our firewall helps keep the outside world from actively locating and identifying your computer and harming it while connected to the internet.

To activate our dial-up firewall, simply add a star (*) in front of your user name (*username) in the "Connect To" box before connecting, and our system will turn on the firewall for your dial-up session. When your "*username" takes without error, you will know the firewall has been activated and will be working during your on-line time.

If you have set your system to connect automatically, just click on the "Cancel" button while the modem is dialing. This will bring up the "Connect" box where you can add the * in front of your username.

If you are a Mac user, please call us for how to add the firewall * since there are several variations in where the username 'lives' depending on your OS.

This will not affect your connection speed and data transfer rates in any way.

While software can be purchased that will firewall your online sessions, we are happy to make this service available to our subscribers at no extra cost. We invite you to call if you have any questions or want more information about how this works.
