SPAM is the term commonly used for unsolicited or junk e-mail that shows up in your mailbox usually with bogus recipient and sender addresses. While there will never be any method of completely eliminating SPAM from the internet, there are things you can do to help cut down on the amount that comes through our system and reaches you:
#1 - NEVER reply to SPAM and "demand" that your name be taken off of a mailing list. This only confirms to the SPAMMER that they have, in fact, reached you and will give them a viable and known address to send more mail to. This also almost always results in your address being sold to other SPAMMERS and added to their mailing lists.
#2 - Be VERY cautious of where you submit your e-mail address. Reputable websites that ask for your address should have privacy statements that guarantee it will not be sold or given to other sources, and only used to send you updates concerning their products or services.
#3 - When Forwarding e-mail messages from others with multiple addresses in the CC: field, DELETE those addresses before sending. If this is not done, large numbers of people have access to many, many e-mail addresses of strangers. You can also ask people you send e-mail to, not to Forward your message on to others without deleting your address.
By following the three suggestions above, you can be instrumental in keeping SPAM to a minimum.
